A Riesling To Visit Glenora Wine Cellars This May

In honor of Riesling Month, Glenora Wine Cellars will offer customers Riesling and food pairings throughout the month in the Retail Shop, The Inn and Veraisons.
 
In Glenora’s Retail Shop, as part of the standard wine tasting, customers will have the opportunity to taste homemade focaccia bread, prepared daily by our executive chef, Orlando Rodriguez, paired with Glenora’s Semi Dry Riesling. 
 
At The Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars, guests upon arrival will be served a glass of Riesling accompanied by a variety of local cheeses that pair well and showcase the Riesling. 
 
Veraisons Restaurant will feature a specialty dish on the menu for the month of May that is prepared with as well as will pair well with Riesling. Flights of Riesling will be available for purchase to accompany any meal.
 
The finale of the month long celebration will be on Sunday, May 31st at Feast and Fest in Glenora’s Retail Shop. From 1 – 4 PM that day enjoy listening to the talented Jared Campbell while savoring foods and wine pairings, featuring Glenora Wine Cellars’ award winning Rieslings. Advance reservations are appreciated for this event, please call Glenora’s Retail Shop 607.243.9504.

Glenora Wine Cellars Guided Cellar Tours

Glenora Wine Cellars offer our guests a guided, interactive cellar tour. The tour provides an educational, behind the scenes look into the winemaking process and gives insight into how we produce over 45,000 cases of wine a year. Tours are offered June 1 - October 31 daily 11 am - 5 pm, and year round by appointment.

 

The tour starts outdoors with a bit of history about Glenora and the Finger Lakes region.  Visitors are then taken around to the different pieces of equipment and given the step by step progression of the grape, from on the vine to wine! Along the way our guests enjoy a barrel tasting and a wine and food pairing. We especially recommend going on a tour during the fall season (late August till the end of October) when harvest in full swing.

 Beverage Tasting Institute Names Glenora's Riesling Best in the U.S.

October 2008, Glenora Wine Cellars' Riesling was awarded the score of 92 by the Beverage Tasting Institute (BTI) in addition the wine was given the accolade of the Best Riesling in the U.S. under $20.  Glenora Wine Cellars' Dry Riesling was awarded the score of 91. 

Glenora Wine Cellars is one of the largest producers of Riesling in the Finger Lakes Region.  "It is fantastic to see that years of experience and hard work crafting fine wines has been recognized by the Beverage Tasting Institute", states Steve DiFrancesco, Winemaker.  "We are very proud of the wines we produce at Glenora, however when an objective, respected organization such as BTI gives a wine such a prestigious honor, it is certainly a high note for me personally, as well as the Cellar Team and all the people at Glenora Wine Cellars."

The Beverage Testing Institute was founded in 1981 with the objective of producing fair and impartial wine reviews for consumers. Today, this philosophy still holds true.

Over the years, their buying guides have appeared in the Wine Enthusiast, Restaurant Hospitality, The New Yorker Magazine, Wine & Spirits, International Wine Review, Epicurious.com, All About Beer, and many others.

May 1, 2008 - Live Like Liz, Inc. won the 2nd Annual Veraisons Restaurant Celebrity Guest Chef Challenge, raising almost $400 for their organization.  The celebrity chef challenge began in January 2008 and concluded in April with over $1400 raised for local organizations and charities.

Every other Thursday local celebrities were front and center at the pasta buffet in Veraisons' dining room to serve guests their freshly created dish of pasta.  In return, Glenora Wine Cellars donated a portion of sales for the evening to the charity of their choice. Glenora Wine Cellars matched the winner’s raised donation. Participating organizations included: Lakewood Winery (Monty Stamp Fund at the New York Wine Grape Growers organization), Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce (NASCAR celebration in Montour Falls), Dundee Central School (Dundee Youth Center), Keuka Comfort Care, Schuyler Hospital (Schuyler Health Foundation's 2008 Family of Friends Campaign), Finger Lakes Wine Country (Big Brother Big Sisters), Live Like Liz Inc., Friends of the Outlet (Keuka Outlet Trail Spot Improvement Project), Keuka College (Keuka College Scholarship Fund).

“This is a great way to help local organizations raise money for worthy causes,” said Gene Pierce, President of Glenora Wine Cellars. “Glenora Wine Cellars enjoys giving back to the local community, as they give so much to us. Thank you to all of you who participated and attended.”

Glenora 2006 Dry Riesling Receives International Recognition with Latest Gold Medal

In January (2007), Glenora Wine Cellars received a Gold for their 2006 Dry Riesling at the Riesling du Monde (“Rieslings of the World”) competition in Alsace, France. There were 300 wineries from 13 countries that entered this prestigious competition.

“This continues Glenora’s remarkable success with the wonderful Riesling grape variety,” said Steve DiFrancesco, Glenora Wine Cellars Winemaker. “Riesling is the highest volume product produced by Glenora,” Steve adds.

Glenora Rieslings have earned a total of 24 awards in 2007 competitions. Glenora Wine Cellars Receives “Exceptional” Award

October 18, 2007 - In September Glenora Wine Cellars received the highest rating for our Vintner Select Dry Riesling from the Beverage Testing Institute. The BTI, from Chicago, awarded Glenora’s Vintner’s Select Dry Riesling 91 points for an “Exceptional” rating. Warren Hill is next up on the Vineyard Stage at Glenora Wine Cellars. Warren returns for his fourth appearance at Glenora on Sunday, August 19. Mr. Hill is not only one of the most gifted performers and "off the hook" showman in the jazz world, he is constantly applying his creative talent to find new ways to connect with his fans in this ever-changing world of music. Glenora Wine Cellars Receives Gold Medal

Glenora’s 2006 Dry Riesling received a gold medal in the 2007 Critics Challenge International Wine Competition held in San Diego and Monterey, CA. Glenora’s 2001 Brut and 2005 Meritage were awarded silver medals at the same competition. (read more...)
