Rieslings and other German Varieties - February 16, 2010
The German variety Riesling is considered by many to be the greatest white wine in the world. Less well known is the fact that Germany is home to many other fine wine varieties as well. We will try German varieties from the home country as well as other regions of the world that have embraced them.
Wine and Food Pairing - March 16, 2010
Wine and food pairings seem mystical, yet there are simple guidelines that tend to make pairings harmonious. We'll explore synergies of savory, sweet, sour and other food flavors with the dry, sweet, warm and crisp flavors in wine.
Wine with Bubbles - April 20, 2010
Real Champagne comes from France, but there are many good "imitations" from other areas of the world. We'll compare the real thing with Sparking Wines from the Finger Lakes, West Coast, Spain and Italy.
Old World versus New World Wines - May 18, 2010
The European "Vinifera" grapes comes from the so-called "old world" of Europe. This species of grape, which includes Riesing, Chardonnay, Merlot, and others, has found its way into "new world" regions such as Australia, California, South America, and others, including Finger Lakes. We will compare the same varieties from regions such as France, Germany and Italy with regions such as New York, Australia, and Chile.
